Targeted Marketing
If you don’t think that your Marketing is working, think about whether you’re targeting it properly. Have a look at the following information and see if your marketing could be more effective.
Who exactly do you want to attract?
Businesses or the man in the street?
Kids, middle aged people, pensioners?
Workers or Management?
Rich people or people looking for a bargain?
Locals or people all over the world?
Who you’re selling your product to has a big impact on how you market your product.
If you’re selling an upmarket product, your marketing material has to look upmarket too. Use beautiful photographs that show your product off to its best advantage, use quality paper for your printing, use the right kind of language to describe your product.
Once you know who your customers are, it can help you choose the best vehicle for getting your message to those customers. Distributing a brochure with a local publication could get villagers with a high disposable income into your shop; handing out leaflets in town centres could get people to your event, search engine optimisation could get people to buy from your website.
When people buy from you, make sure you ask them where you heard about you. This will help you identify what piece of marketing is working best. To see exactly how effective it is, work out how much you spent on that bit of marketing, and how much your customers spent with you as a result.
It’s not rocket science, but making sure that you’re spending your marketing budget in the right place will save you money AND make you money!
